Parrots A GoGo
A new breed of bird has been discovered nesting in the parish. The bird has been twitched on several occasions and is believed to be a
cross between an African Green Parrot and the common Swift.
It was first spotted sat on the chimney of 43 Steel St, last Tuesday. Later
that day it reappeared on the bird table of 9 Wakefield Street. Since then, a deluge of bird spotters have been descending at a slow rate,
peaking with the appearance of seventies Goodie, Bill Oddie. When asked if he could suggest a possible name for the bird, Mr Oddie replied, 'Polly'.
The RSPB chaired a meeting in Askam Community Centre to decide on the new title of the cross breed, and The Askam Herald were asked to attend.
Several authorities claiming that such a large but agile bird did not fly like it was 'Pift' instantly dismissed the first suggestion.
Then followed a serious discussion with many variations on the theme of 'Swift' and 'Parrot'. With the talks going late into the night it was
finally agreed that the new breed was to be called a 'Green Backed Dalsk'.
In a further development, the University of Cambridge confirmed
that they would be conducting research into the genetic make up of the 'Dalsk'. The Dons have sought permission from Askam Parish Council and
will be hiring a building and drafting in several hundred professors and students.
They have put up a £500 reward for anybody who finds
a sample of feather, although after more than one hoax the money will only be paid out when proved it is from the Green Backed Dalsk
The Askam Herald is also putting up a reward of £10,000 for a photograph of the exclusive bird. here we have prepared an image of what we believe
the bird might look like. We have been trying to track down the first person to view the Dalsk, but we couldn't find them on the way to,
or from Mabels Bakery when buying our lunchtime pie.
